What makes a screenless companion believable
Telling a stroke from a squeeze
Capacitive arrays alone cannot do it. Contact area, pressure trend over time and the motion response have to be fused — otherwise every touch is the same event and the character feels random.
Emotion that decays
A state model with inertia: attention raises attachment slowly, neglect decays it, and the decay rate is what makes a week away feel like something. Persisted locally so a power cycle does not reset the relationship.
Motion vocabulary, not random motion
Six to ten distinct gestures that mean specific things, with transitions between them. Random wiggling reads as broken; a small set used consistently reads as personality.

Are you affiliated with Moflin or Casio?
No. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or a supplier to Moflin or Casio. We develop screenless companion products for other brands and do not reproduce protected designs.
Does it need an app or a cloud subscription?
It can run entirely offline with the emotional model on-device, which many care channels prefer. A cloud model adds richer conversation and remote updates; the choice is a product decision, and we build either.
How long before the character feels different?
The emotional state should shift measurably within a few days of consistent interaction and be clearly different after two to three weeks. Faster than that feels scripted; slower and most owners never notice.
Can it be used by older adults with dementia?
Touch-first interaction suits that use case, but the product has to be designed for it: no settings to get lost in, no charging ritual to forget, no small parts. Tell us the care context and we will say what the design has to change.
